KKR will invest in Rinku Singh in coming years: McCullum

Kolkata Knight Riders head coach Brendon McCullum says young batter Rinku Singh has been their find of the ongoing IPL season and the franchise will invest in him in the coming years. Rinku, who nearly pulled off an epic win with his breathtaking batting against Lucknow Super Giants here on Wednesday, earned high praise from McCullum. “Absolutely he (Rinku) sure has (been the find of the season). Rinku is a player who KKR will invest in, no doubt, over the next few years and we will see him really progress and may even challenge for higher honors in time,” McCullum, who is set to take over as England’s next Test head coach, said at the post-match press conference. Delhi Capitals peaking at right time in IPL, says Mitchell Marsh

Delhi Capitals are hitting their stride at the perfect time in the Indian Premier League, all-rounder Mitch Marsh said after helping the side break into the top four with Monday’s victory against Punjab Kings. Marsh smashed the only half-century of the match as Delhi defended a modest 159-7 to record their first back-to-back victories this season. “It’s been one of those seasons where we’ve been stop-start,” said Marsh, whose 63 off 48 balls saw him named Man of the Match. “In long tournaments like this, it’s about peaking at the right time. “I think over the last week or 10 days, we’ve played some really good cricket and that’s a really good sign.” Delhi, who beat Rajasthan Royals in their previous match, finish their league campaign against bottom-placed Mumbai Indians on Saturday. “We’ve got one more to go. We know if we win that, we’ll be in the finals and we can give it a real good shake,” Marsh said. Table-toppers Gujarat Lions have secured their playoff berth in their debut season with 20 points from 13 games and are trailed by Rajasthan and Lucknow Super Giants, both on 16 points. Read more

IPL 2022: Mixing up deliveries paid off against Punjab Kings, says Shardul Thakur

Pacer Shardul Thakur credited his success against Punjab Kings to his decision to mix up deliveries, which paid rich dividends during the “big win” that kept Delhi Capitals in the IPL play-off race. Spinners Axar Patel and Kuldeep Yadav were inspirational in the middle overs even as Shardul complemented the duo with career-best IPL figures as DC beat Punjab by 17 runs to climb to the fourth spot in the points table. Invited to bat, DC posted 159 for 7 courtesy of Mitchell Marsh’s 48-ball 63 and then restricted Punjab to 142 for 9. Thakur (4/36), Axar (2/14), and Kuldeep (2/14) shared eight wickets among them while Anrich Nortje got the important wicket of Jonny Bairstow. “There was the difference in both the side boundaries, but there was dew and it was humid, so I felt they could hit a six on the bigger side (boundary). So the better idea was to mix up deliveries and confuse the batter. Read More
